Frenchman Alexandre Müller, 67th in the world, eliminated his compatriot Arthur Fils, 20th, on Friday in the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Hong Kong despite losing the first set (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).

After having fought for more than 3h30 to get rid of the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (54th) in the previous round, Müller found the resources to dominate Fils in 1h51.

Wasted opportunities

The younger of the two Frenchmen (20 years old for Fils, 27 years old for Müller) nevertheless took the upper hand in the first round. But Müller, more consistent, then took the lead, taking advantage of his opponent's wanderings (9 double faults, 45% first serves).

Son missed a lot of opportunities to take Müller's serve (2 break points converted out of 13), unlike Müller (5/8).

Müller will play against the Italian number 2 seed Lorenzo Musetti or the Spaniard Jaume Munar in the half.
