On Wednesday January 1 at 9:10 p.m., TF1 broadcasts Wonder Woman. A spectacular film, taking advantage of a unique filming location…
If superhero films are legion, what can we say about those reserved for their sisters, the superheroines? Less numerous, there are a few who have been entitled to releases in cinemas around the world. We think of Elektrain 2005, but especially in Wonder Womanunveiled in 2017. After an appearance in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, the character was given a feature film in his name, directed by Patty Jenkins. Once again, it’s Gal Gadot who does it, giving the answer to Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright and even the Frenchie Saïd Taghmaoui. Note that some of them will have had the opportunity to set foot on the legendary island of Themyscira.
Wonder Woman or the origins of a superheroine
A paradise island, a true haven of peace, Themyscira was created by Zeus to protect the Amazons of Ares. This is where a certain Diana lives, whom her mother, Queen Hippolyta, tried to keep away from the fighting… The young girl will experience violence by then training with a certain Antiope, the best warrior of the tribe. It was only years later that Diana, Amazon princess, would choose to test her abilities as a fighter. After an American pilot crashes on her island, she learns of the madness of men. Far from home, the war rages and Diana will try everything to put an end to it. This is also where the princess will discover what her superpowers really are.
Wonder Woman : When the island of the Amazons is not very far from us…
Obviously, Themyscira, land of the Amazons, is a purely fictional island. To represent it on screen, 47 countries passed under the radar of stage manager Charles Somers and production designer Aline Bonetto, ultimately arriving at one and the same location. The choice was made to film along the particularly popular Amalfi Coast in Italy. A choice explained by Aline Bonetto in the press kit for the film: “The weather in Italy is beautiful, the sea is blue-green, there are not too many tides and not too many waves. The visual effects team added some cliffs in post-production and everything was perfect.”
