Laura Jaymangal, Executive Officer at Transparency Mauritius: “Continue to work for a more transparent country”

laura jaymangal“In 2024, our pride lies in collaborations with the IBA, the European Union and other partners for youth empowerment workshops. These sessions allowed young people to express themselves and share their ideas, an enriching moment for everyone.

For 2025, we hope to increase our visibility, continue our work for a more transparent country, where institutions operate ethically and where democracy is truly experienced.

At Transparency Mauritius, we hope that in 2025, we will be able to continue working towards a more transparent country, where corruption decreases and where the political will for change is affirmed. We believe it is essential that institutions begin to operate efficiently and ethically again, to build a country where life is good. »

francois de grivel“After this year’s elections, I hope that Mauritius will begin to regain some serenity. Hope is now focused on a better future for all. Among the priorities: the fight against drugs remains essential to improve the living conditions of affected families, particularly those whose loved ones, children or parents, are under the influence of this addiction.

Furthermore, dialogue between the public and private sector will be crucial for making long-term strategic decisions and creating sustainable solutions.

The message for 2025: a year of good intentions, improved employment, and rising standards of living for all. With a new government, the hope is to see concrete actions to improve the country’s situation. »

Nasreen Banu Ahseek, educator and artist: “May this year be a promise kept, and an inspiration for all”

nasreen banu ahseek“As an educator and artist, my wishes for 2025 are one of humility and hope. With a new government in place, I aspire to see a society where education and become fundamental pillars of collective progress. Education, beyond the classroom, should become an engine of transformation, providing every child and adult with the means to dream, create, and contribute to a sustainable future. I hope that innovative initiatives will emerge to encourage more inclusive, adaptive learning and focused on the challenges of tomorrow.

Art, for its part, is the mirror of our identity and a bridge between our differences. It invites us to celebrate our diversity and come together around common values. Edley Maurer, social worker: “We must build a more inclusive society”

edley maurer“My dearest wish is that all Mauritian children are fully protected and that no one is left behind. It is unacceptable that in 2024 children will have lost their lives in tragic circumstances. This situation must change. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment.

I also want our country to invest in the future of our children, with an emphasis on quality education for all. It is imperative that the Minister of Education makes inclusion a priority and that no one is excluded. No child should be left behind in the education system. Quality education, as recommended by the UN, must be accessible to all, without exception.

The Ministry of Education must stop delegating essential responsibilities to external entities. An inclusive system is needed, especially for children with special needs. And it is crucial that access to school is guaranteed for all, including in terms of adapted transport.

We must build a more inclusive society, in which all children, whatever their needs, can thrive and succeed. This change is essential to building a better future for our young generation.

I hope this new government will bring significant changes to our education system.

Happy New Year 2025 to everyone and may our society become more inclusive and fairer for all our children. »

Angelina Paul, mother of a disabled and autistic child: “A special thought for mothers who support disabled or autistic children”

angelina paul“I wish everyone a year 2025 filled with joy, prosperity, happiness and above all health. I have a special thought for mothers who support disabled or autistic children. May you always find the support and strength to overcome daily challenges.
I also think of those who, like my son, Jean-Marie, have been forced to leave school because there is not enough supervision. It is essential that we work together so that all children, even the most vulnerable, have a chance to flourish, to have the right to education and integration into society.

Many young children, unfortunately, cannot attend school due to various difficulties. We must do more to offer them adapted solutions in terms of educational support and inclusion.

The inclusion of children with specific needs in the education system is essential. These children deserve to grow up in an environment in which they are supported, listened to and encouraged to develop their potential.

For 2025, let’s ensure that every child, without exception, can benefit from the same opportunities for education and development. May this year be one of inclusion, solidarity and support for all.

Happy New Year to everyone and may every step we take together bring us closer to a more just and inclusive society. »
