At least 10 people were killed and 30 injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd in a tourist area of New Orleans, authorities in the American city announced Wednesday.
“We are responding to a mass casualty accident involving a vehicle that drove into a crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street. There are 30 injured and ten dead.declared the city authority in charge of emergencies, in a press release.
The events probably took place around 3 a.m. The area was therefore crowded with people celebrating the New Year in the historic and festive area known as the French Quarter. CBS News cites witnesses as saying a truck drove into a crowd at “high speed” before its driver jumped out and started firing a gun, prompting a police response.
