At the start of the evening, this Tuesday, December 31, the information and command center of the national police, located in Strasbourg, is on alert. New Year's Eve is traditionally a risky night. Especially since the last four nights have not been easy: several dozen cars burned, three house fires due to firecrackers and already around forty arrests.
Jacques Witkowski, prefect of the Grand Est region andBas-Rhin, explains the system put in place. “This evening, 700 police officers are deployed in Strasbourg to manage security, more than 1,100 firefighters in the department as well as 500 gendarmes, a helicopter and drones.
