Bourges (Cher) has become the fourth city in France to equip some of its municipal police officers with standing bicycles. The agents recently received two of these machines, resembling both a bicycle and a scooter and equipped with large tires which facilitate movement on all types of terrain, explains France Bleu Berry on December 30, 2024.
40 km of range
The electric vehicles which cost the Town Hall 8,000 euros were designed by Olivier Joux, who promises a range of 40 km and highlights the practical aspect of his invention for the police. “The point is to be able to move around in any outfit […] and we are not cluttered as we might be on a bicycle. The mayor of Bourges Yann Galut, for his part, welcomed the gain in efficiency brought by the standing cyclists. “The idea is to also make the service attractive in order to be able to recruit”commented the councilor. Eric Pagenaud, director of the municipal police, for his part judged the machine suitable for supervising demonstrations and for circulation in pedestrian streets and by the lake.
