Mathieu Van der Poel will not participate in the GP Sven Nys in Baal, this Wednesday January 1, 2025. The Alpecin-Deceuninck team announced this morning that the Dutchman, suffering from persistent pain in his ribs after his fall at Loenhout on December 27, withdrew from the race.

The cyclo-cross world champion was the victim of an accident during the race in Loenhout, where he hit a pole while trying to take a sharp turn. Although he won the race and followed up with success in Besançon, the discomfort in his ribs has intensified in recent days. After medical consultation, he made the decision not to participate in the round of Baal.

His team clarified that they will closely monitor his recovery and that a decision will be made soon regarding his participation in Koksijde Friday. Van der Poel’s calendar remains busy, with three races coming up before the world championships of Liévin early February, notably at Dendermonde et Maasmechelen.
