For thirty years, Rita Martinet (Cécile Bois) assists her husband, Olivier (Thierry Neuvic), small suburban mechanic. She discovers with amazement that he is cheating on her with Olympe (Antonia Desplat), young director of a major leather goods brand. “This is a woman who chose to work with her husband without being paidexplains Cécile Bois. She built her family and invested in it without asking herself the question of personal, financial or professional independence.”
She then came up with the idea of being hired as Olympe's assistant, a bit as if Cathy Tuche had arrived in the world ofEmily in Paris. “She first wants to create a mess in the world of luxuryexplains the actressbefore falling on the small hands of this industry, among whom it will find itself. Then she takes a liking to this work, which is unlike her, as well as to the vision of excellence that Olympe has for her activity. Rita will then see her, no longer as her husband's mistress, but as a partner…”
Olympe, however, recalls the icy Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada, played by Meryl Streep. Antonia Desplat (daughter of Alexandre, the composer), for whom this is her first major role in France (she is in the casting of Shantaram, the American series on Apple TV+), confirms: “I actually had Meryl Streep in mind to play my character. Olympe has many facets. All this comes from a sensitivity, from an internal fear. She needs to be recognized, especially by her father, to be loved and admired. Very ambitious, she is also very fragile. I hope people understand that his haughty attitude is a way of protecting himself.” Seeing beyond appearances was a real desire of the production, both on the side of the characters and that of the audience. The two heroines succeed, gradually discovering a mutual fascination.
“TWO WOMEN HE LOVES”
What about the husband and lover in all this? “If you saw in Rita a Cathy Tuche, you might as well tell yourself that Olivier has nothing to do with Jeff Tuchepretends to be offended Thierry Neuvic: He's a guy who has a fairly fulfilling family life. Then he comes across Olympe, this total tornado, crazy exotic for him. And lets himself be drawn into this story, even if it is not in his principles. He is lost, caught between two women he sincerely loves, but not in the same way or for the same reasons. He too will evolve, becoming aware of his wife's need for emancipation.”
Made in France: will the series be entitled to a season 2?
Despite an open ending and the complicity that explodes on screen between the three actors, no second part in sight.
