Driver plows into crowd in New , leaves at least 10 dead

A motorist drove into a crowd on New Year's Eve in New , Louisiana (United States). Several victims died, according to local media. There are at least ten dead and thirty injured, authorities announced.

The events took place around 3:15 a.m. (local time), in the French Quarter which is very touristy, at Bourbon Street. A shootout then broke out between the driver of the vehicle, believed to be a pick-up, and the police, according to the same sources. It is not known whether the driver was arrested or neutralized by law enforcement. The authorities will hold a press conference in the coming hours.

Several amateur videos showing the victims were published on social networks.
