Russia launched a salvo of missiles on kyiv this Wednesday, January 1, 2025, killing one person and injuring six others and damaging several buildings in two separate neighborhoods of the Ukrainian capital, authorities announced.
The blasts were heard early in the morning of January 1, 2025, shortly after an alert from the Ukrainian Air Force reporting Russian drones approaching the skies over kyiv.
The city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said anti-aircraft forces were working to repel an enemy attack and that two floors of a residential building were partially destroyed in the attack. Debris also damaged a building in another neighborhood.
“Only one concern”
In a statement, the National Bank of Ukraine said one of its buildings was damaged by debris from a drone shot down by air defense. “Even on New Year's Day, Russia has only one concern: how to hurt Ukraine”denounced Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky on Instagram where he posted photos showing a gutted and burning building.
Drones shot down
The Ukrainian army says it has shot down 63 of the 111 drones launched by Moscow during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday towards Ukrainian territory. Forty-six others were incapacitated by electronic jamming systems, she added.
