the essential
Before diving back into the Super XIII championship, it’s time for the Coupe de France Lord Derby.
This Sunday, January 5, Villefranche XIII Aveyron travels to Villegailhenc Aragon for the round of 16 of the French Lord Derby Cup.
After the entry into the running of the National and Elite 2 clubs, it is the turn of the Super XIII clubs to enter this French Cup.
For the occasion Villefranche XIII Aveyron will find an opponent that it knows well: the Audois were their opponents last season during the final of the Elite 2 championship. If the Aveyronnais had won their title of Champions of France Elite 2 during this final , this season, the situation will be totally different.
Honor the status
The Carcassonne suburbs will be in the shoes of the outsiders while the Villefranchois will be obliged to honor their status as a team playing in the Super XIII.
Still a reserve for AS Carcassonne, the VARL underwent some changes during the off-season. Coach Alexandre Couttet migrated to other lands and it was Pierre Louis Bourrel who replaced him with Malik Boudjerra at his side. Marc Bourrel takes on the position of manager.
On the player side, Thomas Limongi and Anthony Delgado have returned to the fold. Two Australians Tarnae Mahon and Jesse Jennings strengthen the forward pack. And of course the young people trained within AS Carcassonne bring an undeniable plus.
The Audois can also count on players who play either with the ASC or with the VARL like Lucas Rodriguez or Maxime Belondrade. Also, the results this season were not long in coming in the Elite 2 championship. Ranked among the favorites for the title, the VARL is currently ranked second with 4 victories for 2 defeats but with defensive bonus. It is ahead of Ille-sur-Têt which has 5 victories for 1 defeat.
Erase some mistakes
The Villefranchois will go to Aude territory with the ambition of upholding the hierarchy but also of confirming their success of last year. To succeed, they will have to erase certain errors made during their opposition against Toulouse Olympique due to a lack of rigor and attention.
