His efforts finally paid off. The mayor of Breil-sur-Roya has just announced that the town's historic insurer has reversed its decision to terminate all contracts on December 31, 2024. “Good news to end the year”enthuses Sébastien Olharan.
It must be said that the chosen one was hot. Very hot.
When SMACL Assurances announced at the end of June that it was terminating all contracts, the mayor of Breil-sur-Roya found himself in an impasse. He had to find a new insurer by January 1st in order to protect his public buildings (town hall, schools, church, etc.). But his requests went unheeded.
“Insurance companies don’t play the game”Sébastien Olharan bitterly blurted out at the beginning of December. Considering that their reluctance was a consequence of storm Alex and the 10 million damages caused to municipal buildings.
An appeal initiated
“Scandalized” because “lack of consideration”the mayor filed a request before the administrative court, a few days later, to “order SMACL to maintain or resume in full and without interruption the execution of the services to which it is obliged (…) for a period of one year or (…) until the signing of a new contract 'insurance including all the guarantees covered by Smacl'.
“A few days before the judgment, the latter reversed its decision and finally agreed to renew its guarantees for one year, particularly for civil liability and legal protection, indicates the elected official in his press release. This allows us to approach 2,025 without fear of seeing our reception structures (nurseries, schools, leisure centers, etc.) unable to open.”
The civil liability contracts, functional protection of agents and elected officials and self-employed workers are therefore extended until December 31, 2025. However, the question of building insurance remains unresolved. “We have no solution to date,” regrets the elected official, recalling that this point is also the subject of the summary filed with the administrative court.
