Dani Olmo, a player from Jerez and Madrid, has now been officially ruled out of this season with FC Barcelona. The Catalan club’s inability to balance their Financial Fair Play regulations before the December 31 deadline resulted in them being unable to register Olmo (or Pau Víctor) in La Liga. From January 1, 2025, Olmo is free to sign with the club of his choice, and he will not return to play for Barcelona this season.
La Liga has confirmed that it has not registered Dani Olmo, nor Pau Víctor. The documentation provided by Barcelona regarding the long-term sale of VIP boxes at Camp Nou did not meet the league’s requirements. With the deadline passing at 11:59 p.m. on December 31, Barcelona have effectively lost their star recruitment.
This surreal situation took place on the evening of December 31. Aware that they had not secured the funds from VIP box sales necessary for Olmo’s registration, Barcelona tried to buy time by requesting a new license from the Federation. However, hours later, La Liga made it clear that the club had not presented any alternative for Olmo’s registration, thus leaving both players without a club.

According to the statutes of the Federation and La Liga, a player cannot be registered by the same club more than once in a single season. Barcelona had until December 31 to resolve this problem, but the last resort imagined by Joan Laporta failed to convince anyone.
This means that Dani Olmo, Barcelona’s star signing this season, is now free to contract with any club immediately, as logically staying at Barcelona would prevent him from playing competitive football until next season. This includes not representing the Spanish national team — a heavy price for the Catalan player, who bears no responsibility for this situation.

FC Barcelona requests a new license from the RFEF for Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor
The only hope remaining for Barcelona, although slim, is that the Federation accepts the new license requested on Tuesday. However, La Liga, which processes these registrations and licenses, indicated that Barcelona had not provided alternatives that would allow players to be registered from January 2. Therefore, in all respects, Dani Olmo is now free.
