In his traditional speech to the Nation, the President of the Republic officially announces the departure of Macron’s army from its territory. After Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger having all three formed the Confederation of AES States and left ECOWAS, then very recently Chad and Senegal, it is the turn of Côte d’Ivoire to announce the departure of French forces “after a concerted agreement”, according to President Alassane Ouattara. “The military base of Abidjan, the camp of the 43rd BIRMA, of Port-Bouet will be handed over to the forces of Côte d’Ivoire from January 2025,” we learned during his speech.
As in a game of cards, the French military presence in the Sahel sees its former colonies fall without having the strength, the capacity and the possibilities to do otherwise than watch history being built without it.
