You have to imagine a plush house on the shores of Lake Bourget, in Savoie. This morning of December 31, 1996, a thick layer of snow covered the large garden of the property. This does not prevent Daniel Princic, the gardener and caretaker of the premises, from coming, as he does every day, early in the morning to visit the owner, Anne-Marie Pignal, 76 years old. She has lived there alone since the death, four years previously, of her husband Félix, who made his fortune in electronics. But barely has he passed the door when he discovers the body of his boss lying in the entrance, a bread knife stuck in her chest. The weapon is flush with the heart, but she is still alive.
Immediately alerted, the firefighters arrived on site within a few minutes. They decide to transport her with the knife to the operating room so as not to risk bleeding.
