Second in Liga Portugal tied on points with Sporting CP, FC Porto is experiencing a revival after a summer marked by significant changes.
Indeed, the departure of Sérgio Conceição and the emblematic president Pinto da Costa, replaced respectively by Vítor Bruno and André Villas-Boas, opened a new era. By turning to training and banking on its young talents, the club seeks to regain its glory while ensuring substantial income thanks to possible resales.
After a disappointing season marked by the lack of qualification for the Champions League, the club had to deal with limited finances. Summer recruitments, carried out for less than 40 million euros, however, strengthened the workforce. Players like Fabio Vieira (Arsenal), Tiago Djalo (Juventus) and Samu Omorodion (renamed Samu Aghehowa) proved decisive. Despite a hesitant start to the season, the team now shows great cohesion, driven by its young stars.
FUTURE STARS
Among these talents, Nico Gonzalez stands out as a centerpiece. Arriving from FC Barcelona in 2023, the Spanish midfielder is shining this season with 6 goals and 6 assists in 25 matches. His understanding with Stephen Eustáquio in midfield makes him a coveted player, particularly by Liverpool. With a release clause set at €60 million, he could be one of the Dragons’ next big sales.
Other nuggets, Samu Aghehowa and Rodrigo Mora embody the future of the club. Samu, scorer of 18 goals in all competitions this season, has a release clause of 100 million euros. For his part, Rodrigo Mora, just 17 years old, is starting to establish himself in the first team with 3 goals and 3 assists. His clause will reach 80 million euros when he turns 18, and FC Porto plans to increase it to 100 million.
A BEAUTIFUL PACTOL
By integrating these young talents at the heart of its project, FC Porto is also preparing its financial future. The sale of its nuggets could bring in nearly 300 million euros. However, the club will have to decide whether it wants to sell these players this winter or wait until the summer to maximize their value. A strategic choice which could determine the success of the Dragons reconstruction project.
