Between new films from highly rated directors, sequels and endings to sagas, superhero, dinosaur or end-of-the-world films and an invasion of music superstars, 2025 should once again offer choice, after an exceptional year in terms of attendance in French cinemas.
Biopics of music stars
Timothée Chalamet is eagerly awaited as Bob Dylan in A Perfect Stranger by James Mangold, in theaters from January 29. The performance of the Franco-American actor was praised by the main interested party, although he is generally quite stingy with compliments. Later this year, other music heavyweights will be entitled to their biopic, a major trend in the film industry : Michael Jackson with the film Michael, in theaters on October 1st, and Bruce Springsteen with Deliver Me From Nowhere.
Again and again superhero films
From pop or rock heroes to simply superheroes, 2025 will obviously still offer its share of exploitation of sometimes worn-out catalogs: Captain America, Brave New World from Marvel Studios, February 12, Fantastic 4, First steps this summer, without forgetting, also this summer, a new Superman by James Gunn. There will also be dinosaurs with Scarlett Johansson propelled into a new Jurassic World.
In France, saga sequels and the second opus of a filmmaker awarded at Cannes
On the French cinema side, God Save the Tuchethe fifth episode of the fries-heavy saga, will be on screens from February 5. The second part of Kaamelottstill by Alexandre Astier, is expected in theaters on October 22.
Julia Ducournau, crowned with Titanium in Cannes in 2021, should also mark his return with his new feature film, Alphawhich is expected to be released this year.
Films from acclaimed directors and blockbusters
The year 2025 will also see expected performances, notably that of Angelina Jolie as Callas in Maria by Pablo Larraín, February 5. Pedro Almodovar will be back with his new film The room next doorin theaters from January 8. On screens April 16, Mickey 17, by Korean Bong Joon-ho, will follow the triumph of Parasite. Steven Soderbergh, with Black Bag, and Danny Boyle, with 28 years laterwill also be back.
There will also be film adaptations of Snow White et Lilo & Stitch by Disney. Without forgetting, the finale of two huge blockbusters: Mission Impossible, The Final Reckoningjust in time for the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, and Avatar 3 by James Cameron, just in time for Christmas, December 17.
