Sergio Conceição is the new coach of AC Milan. He will be assisted by his trusted men.
It didn’t take long: less than 24 hours after Paulo Fonseca’s departure was made official, Sergio Conceição has been confirmed as the new coach of AC Milan, with a contract until June 2026.
In the official press release, the Milanese wish a warm welcome to their new coach as well as to his staff. Because Conceição arrives at San Siro with his troops from FC Porto.
Among the new arrivals, there are three former Standard players: in addition to Conceição, Verdan Runje signed as goalkeeper coach and Siramana Dembélé as assistant.
A staff who knows each other by heart
Runje evolved Standard from 1998 to 2001, then from 2004 to 2006, working alongside Conceição during his second visit. The Croatian began his career as goalkeeping coach at Antwerp for four years before joining Conceição at Porto in 2021.
Siramana Dembélé has experienced everything at his side: after his playing career, he accompanied the Portuguese as assistant coach to the late Dominique D’Onofrio and then followed him wherever he coached, from Olhanse to Porto passing through Coimbra, Braga, Guimaraes and Nantes.
Very symbolically, Sergio Conceição’s first match at the head of AC Milan will take place on January 3 against Juventus… where his son Fransisco plays.
