One dead and four seriously injured
It's an apartment from the first floor which first found itself engulfed in flames, says Sud Ouest. The flames then became very quickly spread in the residence. The occupant of the first damaged accommodation, a 67-year-old man, died.
A second death was first deplored according to our colleagues: a 71 year old woman, who lived on the upper levelwas eventually put into an induced coma after doctors recovered her pulse. She is part of the four seriously injuredwith a teenager 14 ans and two women 40 and 52 years oldevacuated to a serious condition.
Major resources deployed
About sixty firefighters from the Gironde departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis 33) were mobilized according to France 3, which mentions rescues carried out thanks to the large scale. On the third and fourth floors, water and smoke affected the apartments. There are, in all, 16 in the building, as revealed by France Bleu.
A tree and a candle involved?
France 3 was able to exchange with Stéphane Delpeyratthe mayor of the town. If the exact circumstances of the tragedy remain to be determined, what will be the responsibility of an investigation, the councilor confided that “it all started with a tree and a candle“. For its part, Sud Ouest collected several testimonies pointing to a “certain disorder” in the damaged apartment.
