To say goodbye to the last year and all the good and bad memories it has left us, - promises us an evening of singing, dancing and uplifting. No bitterness, no regrets, only pleasure and guests delighted to find themselves at the heart of the party. “There’s going to be a big party,” confirms the host, who has worked hard to plan the journey during which the evening’s guests will be “kidnapped” with her gang of friendly plotters. “We said to ourselves that we wanted to have fun. There are still moments of reflection and introspection, as we always have, but above all we wanted to focus on the pleasure of celebrating and being together.
I think that’s what a large majority of people need right now.”
For France Beaudoin, this need for lightness is not superficial. “It’s essential at times to connect with joy, with our desire to party. There is a social mission in all of this. And then, we also think of those who are alone, by choice or because they have lost someone. We want to be with them in their house and tell them: “We are with you!”

The ego in the locker room
Those who know the show well know that complete secrecy surrounds the list of guests who will be taken from their homes or workplaces to be brought into the studio, where tailor-made numbers have been concocted for them that should awaken emotions and memories in each of them. “What I can say is that these are people who have been the talk of the town this year. These are people who stood out… rightly or wrongly (laughs)», Reveals France Beaudoin as a clue.
As the guests did not know that they would be taken to the studio before being carried away by the joyful caravan, it was obviously necessary to select people who are comfortable with surprises and the unexpected. “And it takes people who, once seated in their chair, will be happy as much for the surprises of others as for those that await them,” adds the host.
We don’t want someone who is going to sit idly while waiting for their block, because that would be a bit long. (laughs) It also takes people who are self-deprecating, who want to get on board and who can laugh at themselves. We’re not inviting them to a tribute: it’s a party, so you must find it funny if we dress up and make fun of you a little in the second degree!”

The lucky star
Remember that last September, Live from the universe was entering its 16th season. An exceptional success, if we consider that variety shows have been less popular since the arrival of reality TV (among others), which has taken a large part of the pie. This success is appreciated as much by the artistic community as by the public, who have the opportunity to see numerous artists of all generations perform on the studio stage and even, on occasion, stars of the international scene. In the coming months, on March 22 to be more precise, we will also be entitled to quite a treat, on the occasion of a special program dedicated to the centenary of a monument of our culture: Janette Bertrand.
This edition was recorded before the departure for the South of this great lady, who has guided Quebecers on major social issues since her beginnings, like a lucky star. “For his 100th birthday, we experienced a somewhat rare moment on TV in his company,” reveals France Beaudoin. She is so quick-witted and she doesn’t miss anything, nothing, nothing. And not only does she not miss anything, but she brings us back to modernity with each of her interventions. It’s striking. People came for her and it gave moments of great and sincere friendship. It’s sweet, it’s funny… We asked ourselves, after the recording: “My God, what did we just experience there?” I really thank her for being there and allowing us to experience this in her company.” This is a good reason to look forward to spring 2025!
