Christmas is a time of miracles for LOU Rugby. Karim Ghezal's men snatched an incredible draw this Sunday afternoon on the pitch of Racing 92 (25-25).
The one achieved against Stade Toulousain at home will therefore only have been a rehearsal before the new feat of the Rouge et Noir. A slight breath of fresh air in the middle of a slump which is only waiting to continue in 2025.
This Sunday, LOU Rugby wanted to end 2024, a year to forget, in a beautiful way in the Paris region.
For his 100th in the Lyon jersey, Léo Berdeu lit the first fuse with a penalty to which Racing responded in the 16th with a try from Gaël Fickou (7-3). Then Cameron Woki widened the gap a little further in the 20th minute (12-6).
Baptiste Couilloud's yellow did not help LOU, who conceded a 3rd try before halftime from Henry Arundell (19-9).
In the second half, Martin Méliande replaced Léo Berdeu's good footing. But all seemed lost with Nolann Le Garrec's penalty in the 72nd minute. Racing 92 then led (22-15).
Impossible was therefore not Lyonnais. With a try from Semi Radradra and above all a penalty in the last second from Méliande, the LOU therefore snatched a draw.
These two points are a lesser evil for the Rhone team which still finished the year in penultimate place in the ranking.
Doing better will be the main resolution for 2025. And it will start on Saturday afternoon at the Matmut Stadium in Gerland against Perpignan.
