“Off-peak” hours will be reviewed in 2025 to introduce afternoon time slots and particularly favor electric vehicles.
The hours “hollow” at 5 p.m. will soon be over. Interviewed by France Infothe president of the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), Emmanuelle Wargon, spoke of the upcoming review of the system.
Scheduled for mid-2025
“At the CRE, we are attached to off-peak hours, but we want to reposition them because some are poorly placed, such as around 7/8 a.m. or 5 p.m.”she indicated.
She also mentions in an interview with Figaro the possibility that the 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. window becomes a full hour or that the time slots differ between summer and winter “to take into account the period of the day during which the production of solar panels is highest”.
This review is planned for mid-2025, and each consumer will be contacted by their energy supplier in due course. Among the CRE’s projects is the creation of off-peak time slots in the afternoon, particularly in summer.
“It is essential to ensure that off-peak hours remain advantageous. Today, you must consume 30% of your energy during these periods for it to be profitable”added Emmanuelle Wargon.
This offer was subscribed by “a good third of consumers”she calculated. It allows you to have cheaper electricity at certain timess of the day by consuming “at the time when it costs the least to the systems, in production and in the network”.
A more expensive option than the base price
Currently, the peak/off-peak hours option is more expensive than the base rate, as EDF specifies. However, it remains interesting for those who can program their household appliances, heat a water tank or own an electric vehicle.
