It will have remained almost three weeks on the beach of Sotteville-sur-Mer, near Dieppe (Seine-Maritime), but since this Saturday, December 28, 2024 in the early morning, the barge AMT Challenger stranded has definitely left the beach. She left around 8:30 a.m., the mayor of the town tells us, Marie-Hélène Changarnier.
“We are obviously relieved and we are happy that the barge is ungrounded,” underlines the elected official.
Stranded since December 8
As a reminder, the barge ran aground on December 8, 2024 on the beach after the passage of storm Darragh. The 120 meter boat was towed by a “salvage master”, a company specializing in ship rescues at sea, appointed by the Dutch shipowner.
Friday, December 27, a video and photos on Facebook showed helicopters maneuver around the barge.
Rescue operations were briefly shut down for a few days from December 19 due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Marie-Hélène Changarnier also said she was happy not to see no pollution on the beach. In fact, the 14 m3 of marine diesel contained in the boat were pumped.
