After ten days of exhibition during this winter holiday period, the 32nd Algerian Production Fair ended yesterday. Visitors, numerous among professionals and the general public, had the opportunity throughout this period to discover new developments in different economic sectors. The 2024 edition of the FPA highlighted the diversity of Algerian industry in search of development from agri-food to textiles, household appliances and the military industry.
This edition brought together large national, public and private companies, operating in various sectors (agri-food, manufacturing, electronics and household appliances, chemicals and petrochemicals, energy, mechanics, metallurgical, textiles, as well as construction, building materials). construction, services and military industries) over an area of more than 28,000 m².
During this decade, the place was to promote “made in Algeria”, through the spaces of the Algerian Society of Fairs and Exports (Safex). Business was also brisk as a sales area allowed businesses to sell their products and consumers to buy at promotional prices without intermediaries.
The producers present at this unmissable event introduced visitors to their new products, while displaying their determination to cover the needs of the national market and move towards export. And this, especially since the performances achieved both quantitatively and qualitatively are considered important by those who have visited the aisles of Safex.
This is to say that the 32nd FPA still has its importance as a showcase of the know-how of Algerian companies, highlighting the notable progress made by the local industrial sector. A sector in search of support but also of organization.
Achieving self-sufficiency
This calls for increased efforts on both sides, particularly to understand the real capabilities of the national economy in order to develop them and encourage investment in sectors awaiting development. Hence the importance of the national economic census, the second phase of which will take place next January.
Carried out under the aegis of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in coordination with the services of the Ministry of Internal Trade, this operation will affect more than 186,000 economic companies operating in different sectors. At the end of this census, national production capacities will be precisely determined and a national file of the different production units will be developed. This will allow the orientation of investment operations and their distribution across the national territory, in order to create specialized industrial centers.
It is also about achieving self-sufficiency, according to the Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Tayeb Zitouni, in several areas, notably the automotive spare parts industry, home and office furniture, electrical products, household appliances and food, manufacturing industries, clothing and pharmaceutical industries.
Certainly trade fairs and economic events, such as the FPA, allow us to have a general idea of the economy and sectoral activities, but a detailed census is necessary at a time when the emphasis is placed on the diversification of the economic fabric. . A network which includes 1.6 million companies registered in the commercial register. The 600 companies (including 84 exporters) which took part in the 32nd FPA are only a sample which illustrates the progress and shortcomings of Algerian business.
