Andre Onana is in a tough situation at Manchester United after a series of mistakes have left his reputation in jeopardy. Since his arrival in 2023, the Cameroonian goalkeeper has made numerous missteps, with notable blunders like the one on the direct corner conceded against Wolverhampton. In the columns of the Sun, Massimo Taibi, former United goalkeeper, strongly criticized Onana and believes that his situation could become unsustainable if his performances do not improve quickly. According to Taibi, “Andre, you are one of the best goalkeepers in Europe but in the Premier League you underperform.”
Taibi pushes Onana towards a departure
Taibi admits that Onana is a good goalkeeper, but according to him, the environment at Manchester United does not suit him: “I subconsciously think that the environment at United is not ideal for him and when a marriage shows cracks, There is no point in continuing.” He goes on to explain that sometimes it’s better to part ways: “Sometimes things don’t work out in a team and it’s better to part ways, which wouldn’t be a failure.”
Taibi believes the Premier League is not for him: “For English football you need a bigger goalkeeper, who regularly comes off his line with his fists and with a different saving technique.” According to him, Onana would be more comfortable in Italy or France: “He would be better suited to an Italian or French team.” If the mistakes continue, Taibi believes an Onana departure in June 2025 could become inevitable.
