Oysters bought that morning on the market to enjoy with loved ones.
It's the kind of surprise that every oyster lover dreams of one day! It happened to a thirty-year-old from Loire-Atlantique who shared oysters from the island of Bréhat, bought at the market, with his friends and his wife last Sunday, December 22.
As he greedily grabs the mollusk, he discovers a strange sensation in his mouth, reports Ocean Press. “A small round piece, very hard to the tooth”, he confides. He extracts the intruder and, surprise, a pearl measuring a few millimeters which he almost swallowed. The surprise is total as such a discovery is rare in an oyster intended for consumption unlike pearl oysters, raised to make pearls. The pearl is a concretion of limestone which forms around a foreign body, recalls Le Figaro.
The lucky guy had the pearl authenticated, which is indeed one, but apparently has no value… No matter. The story is so beautiful that the lucky man intends to make the pearl a piece of jewelry for his wife, a symbolic gesture for a pearl that may bring good luck.
