Pique continues his project of reinventing football with a new edition of the Kings League World Cup, scheduled for next January. And for his announcement with great fanfare, the former FC Barcelona defender decided to call on a historic opponent: Leonardo Bonucci, named captain of the Italian selection.
The Blues shun the party
What is the Kings World Cup? An international spin-off of the controversial Kings League. 16 nations will be represented, from Piqué’s Spain to Brazil, considered the favorite. Among the others, Germany fields Mario Götze, the USA tries its hand at anything with the influencer Jake Paul (yes, the boxer who fought a 58-year-old Mike Tyson), while South Korea focuses on Park Ji-sung and Lee Kang-in, who obviously has nothing else to do (hello Paris).
But not everyone seems excited about the party. Indeed, for example, there is no trace of the French team to report. A notable absence, explained by the fiasco of the previous edition, during which the Blues – led by the streamer AmineMaTue and supported by Samir Nasri and Jérémy Ménez – collapsed after a series of refereeing controversies.
PiqueMaTue Davis Cup said. Now it’s football’s turn.
