The month of January 2025 promises marked weather conditions for the French mountains, with episodes of snow at low altitude and interesting climatic developments over the weeks.
The Weather Channel has published a 4-week bulletin on a national scale, let's try to translate the consequences for our French massifs.
Week from December 30 to January 5: cold snap and snow at low altitude
With an average temperature of around -2°C, the country is experiencing a new wave of freshness. A northerly wind is accompanied by humidity, favoring snowfall at low altitude across all of the French massifs.
The Alps and the Pyrenees will see a “whitewash” marked, ideal for ski resorts which will benefit from a good layer of fresh snow. Further north, the Vosges will benefit from this very interesting snow episode, even at low altitude.
Average temperature (southern half of France) : -2°
Week from January 6 to 12: dry cold under the anticyclone
Average temperatures will remain close to -1°C, but the weather will become drier, with clear nights favoring frost. Although a few clouds will persist over a large part of the country, the south-east will benefit from more generous sunshine.
In the massifs, notably the Alps and the Pyrenees, the cold conditions will guarantee excellent maintenance of the snow cover previously built up.
In short, “good weather, good snow”, this week promises to be ideal for us skiers.
