Ice Hockey – Magnus League. Brawl during Grenoble

The Magnus League Rules Infringements Commission (CIRJ Magnus) had some work to do at the start of the week. The said commission was to look into the case of Gothiques player James Phelan, expelled by officials during the match, after a fight during the second third on the Polesud ice. During a face-off, Canadian James Phelan and his compatriot François Beauchemin dropped their gloves as soon as the puck landed on the ground. The Gothic was initially sent to prison by the referees, to the boos of the public, before being definitively expelled by the officials, who reviewed the action on video. The Amiens player received a match penalty.

Phelan will play again in 2024

This match of the 28th day of the championship, largely dominated by the Grenoblois (6-0), saw two other fights punctuate the meeting. The CIRJ Magnus, which therefore ruled on this case, decided to impose a two-match suspension on James Phelan for “fighting”. The press release specifies that “the offense indicated corresponds to the IIHF (the international federation) codification; the decision takes into account the nature of the penalty and the circumstances of the infraction.” Phalan will be requalified on December 30.
