The Minister of Transport of the Government of National Unity of Libya (GUN), Salem al Shahubi, expressed his country’s desire to restore air links with Morocco, suspended since 2015, and to open a maritime line connecting the two nations. According to Barlamane.com sources, this project could come to fruition from 2025.

This announcement was made during a meeting in Rabat this week with his Moroccan counterpart, Abdessamad Kayouh. According to a press release that Barlamane.com consulted, the two officials reported their “common will” to strengthen cooperation in transport.

In detail, the Libyan minister expressed his government’s intention to restore air connections between the two countries, stressing that this initiative aims to stimulate economic exchanges and promote the development of bilateral relations. He also declared that Libya was ready to support any initiative with a view to opening a maritime line, in order to promote trade between Rabat and Tripoli.

For his part, Abdessamad Kayouh reaffirmed the availability of his ministry to intensify bilateral cooperation in the transport sector.

It is important to recall that in February 2015, the Moroccan authorities suspended flights between the two countries citing security reasons, a decision which also resulted in the banning of flights over Moroccan airspace by Libyan aircraft. .
