It is a means of saving open to all, “without conditions of age, nationality or residence”, promises the Ministry of the Economy. But also a way to obtain a loan. This is the home savings plan (PEL), which attracted last year 9.9 million French peopleaccording to the Bank of .

In 2025, on the other hand: if you were planning to open this type of savings account, be aware that the PEL remuneration rate increases to 1,75 %compared to 2.25% for those opened in 2024.

A notice published in the Official Journal

This lowering of the rate of remuneration is not at all a bad last minute surprise christmas gift. Its origin lies in a notice relating to the rate of remuneration of housing savings plans published in Official Journal from December 18, 2024.

The annual nominal interest rate for home savings plans is set from January 1, 2025 at 1.75%.

This reduction in the rate of pay “did not no impact on plans opened before January 1, 2025 »explains the French administration website. Only PELs opened after this deadline will be subject to this rate of 1.75%, the others will retain the rate applied in 2024 (2.25%).

A rate fixed and guaranteed after opening the PEL

If the interest rate has changed in 2024 compared to 2023, it will not change over the entire duration of the savings plan: the rate is defined (and guaranteed) at the time of opening the account.

Which is not the case, on the contrary, for a savings account whose rate can be revised several times a year. “The annual gross rate applied therefore depends on the date on which your plan was opened,” opines the Ministry of the Economy.

The cumulative interest on the PEL over the year is paid on December 31 of each year and is added to the amounts saved on this same date.

As a reminder, the minimum duration of a PEL is four years and “after 10 years, you can no longer make payments, but your PEL continues to produce interest for five years,” notes Bercy.
