The city of Fort-de-France postpones the Boucans de la Baie for security reasons

The famous Boucans de la Baie, an unmissable annual event for the end of year festivities in , will not be held on their usual date of December 30. The Fort-de- town hall announced, in an official press release, the postponement of the event for security reasons, to the great regret of the organizers and residents.

For 25 years, the Boucans de la Baie have brought together thousands of Martinicans in Fort-de-France to share a unique cultural and family moment, between spectacular fireworks and free concerts. This edition, marking the 25th anniversary of the event, had to integrate new technologies to enhance the show. But current social tensions, combined with recent urban unrest and a delicate legal calendar, have led the city to err on the side of caution.

In its press release, the municipality underlines the priority given to the safety of the Foyalais and the thousands of expected visitors: “We are adapting to an imposed situation, because the peace and security of Martinicans remain our absolute priority. » Thus, the traditional fireworks display and the concert by Guy Vadeleux and his group, initially planned for December 30, are postponed to Saturday January 4, 2025.

To maintain a festive atmosphere during this period, the town hall is however studying the possibility of organizing a drone show on Tuesday December 31, allowing residents to “spend the year with your head in the stars”.

This postponement comes in a difficult economic context for the city's traders, strongly affected by the drop in their activity in recent weeks. Les Boucans de la Baie are traditionally a boon to the local economy, attracting large crowds to the city center. The authorities hope that this celebration postponed to the start of the year will help bring smiles to the faces of traders and their employees.

Despite the administrative and logistical constraints caused by this postponement, the teams at the Center Tourist Office are committed to making the new date a success. “Everything will be done to ensure that this celebration, exceptional in terms of its calendar, is a festive and memorable moment for everyone, on land and at sea”assure the organizers.

The people of Martinique will therefore have to wait a little longer to take advantage of this flagship moment, which, this year, will mark not the end, but the beginning of the year 2025.
