After the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Marrakech, a true locomotive of Moroccan tourism, is now showing an impressive recovery. Thanks to concerted efforts, supported by public policies and strategic initiatives, the ocher city is once again positioning itself as a destination of choice for national and international visitors.
Marrakech particularly stands out in winter, offering a mild climate and pleasant temperatures. According to the Marrakech Regional Tourism Council (CRT-Marrakech), these climatic characteristics, combined with a rich cultural and gastronomic offer, make the city a preferred choice for the end-of-year celebrations. The celebrations are marked by a multitude of festive events, from gala evenings to craft markets, reflecting Moroccan traditions while meeting the expectations of an international clientele.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Morocco welcomed 13.1 million visitors over the first nine months of 2024, setting a new historic record. Marrakech largely contributes to this success with a 71% increase in tourist arrivals compared to 2023, supported by the intensification of international flights and the holding of major events. Marrakech-Menara airport recorded a flow of more than 10 million passengers this year, confirming its role as a strategic hub within the framework of the Tourism Recovery Program.

Figures published by the High Commission for Planning reveal a notable increase in overnight stays, with an overall hotel occupancy rate reaching 72%. The main source markets, notably France and the United Kingdom, showed growth of 16% and 40% respectively. At the same time, the Moroccan Program for the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, encourages the development of offers adapted to a diversified clientele, thus strengthening the attractiveness of Marrakech to national and foreign tourists.
Marrakech is also establishing itself as an essential destination for global events. In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international partners, the city has recently hosted large-scale meetings, such as the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank. For 2025, Marrakech is preparing to host other major events, such as the African Book Festival and the African Cup of Nations, consolidating its role as a cultural and economic crossroads. The Strategic Plan for the Development of Tourism 2023-2026 plans to strengthen the integration of Marrakech into regional circuits, particularly with the neighboring provinces of Drâa-Tafilalet. This plan aims to optimize the underexploited tourism potential of these territories, while ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth.
Despite the challenges linked to international competition, Marrakech continues to shine thanks to its natural and cultural assets and its modernized infrastructure.
