INTERVIEW – Joined by The Figarothe leader of the world tour confides his satisfaction at finding himself in the fight to triumph and his happiness at being at sea.
« I’m coming out of my nap and I’m listening to a best ofEric Clapton . » Joined late in the afternoon on Christmas Day, Yoann Richomme was then sailing some 11,000 kilometers from France and Les Sables-d’Olonne. After rounding Cape Horn on Tuesday as leader of the Vendée Globe, he began the journey up the South Atlantic, still in the fight with his friend Charlie Dalin.
The opportunity, after 45 days of a breathtaking world tour, to get news from the skipper of the monohull Paprec Arkéa. And, the least we can say is that the double winner of the Solitaire du Figaro, for his first participation in the Vendée Globe, seems calm.
LE FIGARO. – You have passed Cape Horn in the lead and you continue to battle in front of Charlie Dalin during this start of the journey up the Atlantic. It’s safe to say Santa Claus was kind to you ?
YOANN RICHOMME. – Santa Claus isn’t bad, he was quite nice, after that, I don’t know how the rest will turn out. In fact we left Cape Horn, there were a lot of sail changes, we did a lot of maneuvers, we had to rebuild the whole boat for the Atlantic Ocean, that means getting the sails and the bags that were behind, bring them back to the front, empty the ballast tanks, etc. We have really moved from a mode of wearing…
