We know why so many Ligue 1 clubs want to embark on the Chuba Akpom (Ajax Amsterdam) file in January 2025. The reason is as much sporting as financial.
Eager to leave Ajax Amsterdam in January and tempted by a move to Ligue 1, Chuba Akpom (29) is attracting some very good people in the elite of French Football. In addition to RC Lens, who already wanted the English striker to come when he left Middlesbrough in the summer of 2023, LOSC, Stade Rennais, OGC Nice, FC Nantes and even ASSE have their sights set on Akpom in for a loan in January.
It must be said that in addition to being a No. 9 available at a lower cost, Chuba Akpom is also and above all an affordable solution in a championship where everyone is now counting their money with the summer TV rights fiasco.
Akpom is only €80,000 gross per month
The Sportune site provides the outlines of the possible deal, evoking a direct transfer (if it happens) between €6 and €8 million but above all revealing the salary of Chuba Akpom in the Eredivisie. The latter, linked to the Amsterdam club until June 2028, would have accepted a contract of less than one million euros gross per year. Or around €80,000 per month excluding charges.
At this price level, Chuba Akpom seems affordable for all its courtiers with full salary coverage. So, who will pull off the same nice move as FC Metz with Georges Mikautadze last winter by signing the British center forward? Response during the month of January…
