A new earthquake was felt in our region this Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at 9:42 p.m. With an intensity of 2.8 on the Richter scale, its epicenter is located in the Mulhouse region, at a depth of 5 kilometers.
The tremor was felt over a wide area in Germany, Switzerland and eastern France.
An aftershock followed on Thursday December 26, 2024 at 6:21 a.m. with a magnitude of 2.1 on the Richter scale.
This is a new shock felt by the population of our region in this year 2024 after those of Saturday February 3 at 7:29 a.m. (magnitude of 3.2), Sunday February 11 at 12:14 a.m. (magnitude of 3.8) , from Tuesday February 27, 2024 at 2:21 a.m. (magnitude of 3.6) and from Wednesday April 17, 2024 at 5 a.m. 51 (magnitude of 2.5) and Thursday June 27, 2024 at 3:06 a.m. (magnitude of 4.4).
These sensitive earthquakes occur in the year 2024 after a succession of more or less strong tremors during the year 2023.
Wednesday March 22, 2023 at 3:50 p.m., the earthquake reached 4.4 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in Valentigney, in the Doubs department.
Then, Monday May 29, 2023 at 9:16 p.m., it was 4 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter near Belfort, on the border of Doubs and Switzerland, near the villages of Glay and Dannemarie (Doubs) .
Then Thursday June 1, 2023 at 2:48 p.m., the measured intensity was 3.7 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in the Mulhouse sector.
Sunday August 27, 2023 at 10:32 p.m., the intensity amounted to 3 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in the Montbéliard region, precisely in the town of Glay.
Thursday September 14, 2023 at 9:56 p.m., the intensity reached 2.8 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in the Xertigny sector.
Monday September 9, 2023 at 12:23 a.m., the intensity was 2 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in the Epinal sector.
And on Friday December 29, 2023, the intensity was 2.5 on the Richter scale with an epicenter in the Basel sector, on the Swiss border.
Remember that on Saturday September 10, 2022 at 5:58 p.m., a major earthquake shook our region. With a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale, its epicenter was located near Mulhouse.
