Sensational turning point for Max Verstappen: the four-time world champion is ready to leave Formula 1. He could then go elsewhere
Despite a much closer fight than the previous two championships, in the end the verdict was once again the same, namely Max Verstappen Formula 1 world champion. The Dutch rider managed to win his fourth consecutive world title driving for Red Bull: an extraordinary series of successes which also allows him to 'see' the record of 5 World Championships in a row won by Michael Schumacher from 2000 to 2004 with Ferrari.
As mentioned, however, this 2024 World Cup has been much more complicated for the 27-year-old from Hasselt. The RB20 did not perform at its best in the second part of the season, while McLaren and Ferrari have grown a lot and for many they even surpassed Red Bull in terms of performance. Precisely this trend has sparked several discussions on what the future of Max Verstappen will be.
At the FIA Awards ceremony the Dutch driver underlined that he wanted to continue his streak of successes in F1 and obviously the intention is to do so with Red Bull. Verstappen has a contract with the Milton Keynes team until 2028 and despite the many rumors that speak of a relationship that is no longer so solid, it is probable that the four-time world champion will continue to race with the team led by Christian Horner.
Verstappen leaves F1: the decision shocks the fans
But what will happen when Verstappen decides to say enough to Formula 1? Will he retire or continue in some other category of motorsport? According to a former world champion like Jenson Button, the career of the Dutch champion will not end with his stop in F1: the English driver is in fact convinced that Verstappen will try other experiences and they will be equally successful.
“He will move away from F1 to go racing elsewhere – said Button – He talked about endurance races, maybe Le Mans or Daytona, or maybe it will just be a simulation race, who knows, but he will still be there fighting for victories.”
The former McLaren and Brawn driver (with whom he became world champion in 2009) recalled that Verstappen loves motor racing just like himwho after F1 tried his hand at SuperGT and WEC: “He will run for a long time to come, perhaps in a different capacity.”
