He has not yet taken office in the White House and Trump has already had the opportunity to start threatening a few countries. Beyond the usual controversies with China, the returning president has announced that he wants to put duties on Canadian and Mexican products, i.e. on imports from the two countries with which the USA has signed a trade agreement that goes in the opposite direction.
But up to this point we are in the economic field. Incorrect but only cheap.
The real problems arise with Panama. Because Trump wants sovereignty over the Canal and lower tariffs. In Panama they didn't take it very well and the president made it clear that the independence and sovereignty of the state are non-negotiable. Therefore “every square km of the Canal and surrounding areas will remain under the control of Panama”. Trump's response was immediate: “Welcome to the US Channel.” Not exactly a friendly signal.
But the Yankee president is not satisfied, he also wants Greenland because it is an “absolute necessity”. Too bad that the inhabitants of the island also exist. And the prime minister, Mute Egede, assured that Greenland is not for sale and will not be for sale in the future either.
On the other hand, if Israel can invade Gaza, the West Bank, Syria without the Collective West at least trying to protest, why should Washington respect the sovereignty of other countries? At least Trump steps out of hypocrisy and announces to the world that double standards have become official. And whoever doesn't kowtow will be invaded if it's convenient for the US. While, obviously, this does not apply to China and its claims.
