Alpine skiing: the video of the unusual fall of the Austrian Katharina Huber from the start of the Semmering giant

Katharina Huber’s race during the first round of the giant in Semmering, Austria, unfortunately did not last long this Saturday. The 29-year-old Austrian skier completely missed her start and fell a few meters after the gate.

She finished the race on her stomach and, to add to her misfortune, her face hit the camera placed on the ground. The incredible video was shared on social networks and has certainly not stopped making headlines.

This failed start is reminiscent of that of the Frenchwoman Marion Rolland, who also fell as soon as she left the gate during the Vancouver Olympic Games in 2010. A fall which had also earned her years of mockery and a “mini-depression”. The French skier suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament.

The race was won by the Italian Federica Brignone, who had won the first round, ahead of the Swede Sara Hector (+0″57) and the New Zealander Alice Robinson (+0″90). The first Frenchwoman, Clara Direz, took 26th place.
