Made by Jean-Jacques Annaud in 1986, six years after the first edition of the novel in 1980, “The Name of the Rose” sees Sean Connery in the role of Guglielmo da Baskerville, while Christian Slater plays the role of the young pupil Adso da Melk . The story takes us back to the 14th century, when a couple of monks (Connery and Slater) solve the tangled mess of a series of mysterious crimes that occurred in a majestic and solitary abbey. Calligraphic film with splendid photography, excellent in the characterization of characters and places, based on the masterpiece of the same name by Umberto Eco, sold in millions of copies all over the world, it won numerous awards for best photography (Tonino Delli Colli), best costumes (Gabriella Pescucci) and best scenography (Dante Ferretti). Directed by the French Jean-Jacques Annaud. The cast features Sean Connery, Christian Slater and Helmut Qualtinger.

Plot
Autumn 1327. Some mysterious deaths upset the tranquility of a Benedictine monastery. The friars are convinced of an imminent Apocalypse but the Franciscan monk Guglielmo Da Baskerville, who arrived in that place with his trusted novice Adso da Melk, begins to investigate and discovers something else. Once the wrath of the inquisitor Bernardo Gui is unleashed, Guglielmo and Adso must do their utmost to try to exonerate the unjustly accused.
