Immigration, vaccines, Capitol… the American president-elect for January 20, 2025 listed his radical priorities for “day 1” of his second term during an exclusive interview on Sunday December 8.
Before an expected visit to Paris for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, future American President Donald Trump delivered an exclusive interview this Sunday, December 8 on NBC Newsmarking his first televised speech since his victory in the November 5 presidential election.
This interview was an opportunity for the president-elect, 47th in the history of the United States, to detail his priorities in the run-up to his inauguration on January 20, particularly on key subjects such as immigration, theme dear to his political discourse.
End of land law
Donald Trump reaffirmed his desire to end land law, which he described as “ridicule”. According to his statements to the American channel, this right would allow any person setting foot on American soil to become a citizen, an erroneous assertion since the right of soil only applies to individuals born on the territory. Faced with criticism, particularly that of CNN who recalled that this right is enshrined in the Constitution, Trump remained vague on his means of action.
The future president also mentioned his flagship project: expelling all illegal immigrants. Although he recognized the complexity of this measure, he confirmed that its objective includes families where some members are in a legal situation and others in an irregular situation. “I don’t want to separate families”he declared, before specifying that this implied their collective expulsion.
However, Trump displayed a more nuanced position regarding “Dreamers”, these immigrants who arrived in the United States illegally when they were minors and protected by a program initiated by Barack Obama. He said he was ready to work with Democrats to develop a plan in their favor.
Presidential pardon for January 6 rioters
Trump also addressed the issue of the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, saying he wanted to grant a presidential pardon to his supporters involved. This measure would take place on his first day in office, because, according to him, these people are detained in unacceptable conditions. But, he mentioned that certain exceptions could be made for individuals he judges “radicalized or dangerous”.

On the other hand, he expressed a desire to sanction the members of the commission who investigated this attack, going so far as to affirm that they “should go to jail”although he clarified that he would not give this order directly.
A survey on vaccines
On the issue of vaccines, Trump announced that he wanted to entrust Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his future Secretary of Health, with an investigation into vaccines deemed “dangerous for children”.
Taking up controversial anti-vax theses, he suggested a potential link between vaccination and autism, asserting that cases of autism have increased considerably in recent decades. “Maybe some vaccines aren’t great. If they’re not, we need to find out”he concluded.
