In the Carabao Cup, Spurs earn the challenge against the Reds after beating Manchester United in a fiery match last night, in which they risked squandering a three-goal deficit. Tonali scores a double in the Magpies’ victory over Brentford
Tottenham booked their fourth and final EFL Cup semi-final place with a dramatic 4-3 win over Manchester United as the north London side overcame the Red Devils on home soil. Now it will be Liverpool for Spurs, while Arsenal will face Newcastle in the other semi-final.
The semi-finals will be played in two matches in the week of January 6th and February 3rd. The winners will face each other at Wembley Stadium in the final on 16 March.
Last night’s match saw Tottenham recover after taking a 3-0 lead in the 54th minute thanks to two goals from Dominic Solanke and one from Dejan Kulusevski. Then Forster’s errors allowed substitutes Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo to bring the score to 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining. The final 4-2 was then signed by Son.
After that the game was one-sided, with United fully ahead, but Spurs scored a last-gasp fourth goal through Son Heung-min, who found the net from a corner, and held on despite a goal from Johnny Evans.
Liverpool progressed to the League Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Southampton, while Gabriel Jesus ended his scoring drought with a hat-trick in Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
The Italian Sandro Tonali was instead the protagonist, scoring two goals in Newcastle’s victory over Brentford 3-1 at St James’ Park.
