Notably author of a hat-trick in the Europa League final with Atalanta Bergamo, striker Ademola Lookman won the distinction for the first time in his career.
Ademola Lookman succeeds Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker from Atalanta Bergamo, finalist of the last African Cup of Nations and author of a historic hat-trick in the Europa League final last May, received the African Player of the Year award on Monday awarded by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Hakimi beat in Marrakech
Lookman (27), 14th in the Ballon d’Or and again a scorer last week in the Champions League against Real Madrid (2-3), beat PSG’s Moroccan Achraf Hakimi – who hoped to triumph at home in Marrakech under the eyes of its president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi -, Serhou Guirassy (Guinea, VfB Stuttgart then Borussia Dortmund), Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast, Brighton) and Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns).
