A preliminary investigation has been set in the trial of Mohamed Reda Ajaba, accused of stabbing his father Abdelhak Ajaba last January, in Laval-des-Rapides.
Lasting three days, the preliminary investigation will be held from April 22 to 24, 2025, in Joliette.
Fifteen witnesses will be heard, including several police officers, a forensic doctor, as well as neighbors who witnessed the events, prosecutors announced during the hearing on Monday, December 16, at the Laval courthouse.
The murder of Abdelhak Ajaba, aged 66, occurred on January 15, 2024.
That night, the police were called around 3:30 a.m. to a residence on Place Robin, in the Laval-des-Rapides district. They found a seriously injured man there, whose death was pronounced a little later at the hospital.
His son, Mohamed Reda Ajaba, 33, is suspected of stabbing him to death.
Found at the scene, he was transported to hospital due to injuries. Arrested and charged with the second degree murder of his father, he appeared from his hospital bed and pleaded not guilty.
Mohamed Reda Ajaba has remained detained since.
In the days preceding the tragedy, the victim had called the police to ask for help for his son whose mental state worried him.
