Triple murder in Brossard: Ballouz tells his version of the facts to the jury

Now identifying herself as Levana Ballouz, the accused delivered her plea Wednesday at the Longueuil courthouse and revealed to the jury a photo of her family during the holidays, asking “how a gender tragedy can happen to a such a young and beautiful family.

“You have before you a woman, a mother. Good deliberation”

Levana Ballouz told the juror.

Ballouz, aged 38, claims that her partner killed her 2 and 5 year old sons during the ten minutes she went to get beer. It was at this moment that a surveillance camera filmed the father winking before heading into the home where the family was staying.

The accused says she tried to take her own life after the discovery of the bodies, not out of guilt, but out of desperation.

This hypothesis is completely the opposite of that of the Crown, which claims that Ballouz stabbed his partner 23 times, took the time to drink beer on the balcony while he planned the death of his sons.

The Crown assumes that Ballouz suffocated his sons with a pillow. The children’s father allegedly tried to hide the evidence by starting a fire before attempting to take his own life by swallowing windshield washer fluid.

A pathologist who testified at the trial Tuesday was unable to clearly identify the cause of the babies’ deaths. Their bodies bore no marks of violence.

Ms. Ballouz said on Wednesday that the theories of the Crown and the experts who testified at the trial did not demonstrate who was the author of the murders. The accused repeatedly attempted to discredit the evidence.

The mother and grandmother of the victims, Sylvie Guertin, did not attend Ms. Ballouz’s pleading, but told journalists she had confidence in the jury.

“I haven’t mourned for two years and three months,” she said, letting out a sob. We went through all the emotions.

“If the case does not go in favor of Synthia, I will definitely appeal,” she concluded.

The judge will give instructions to the jury on Saturday.

Mohamad Al-Ballouz, who today identifies as a woman, told the jury that his ex-wife Synthia Bussières committed the murders of their two sons in Brossard before inflicting injuries on herself to cover up the tracks.
