A fire that occurred on Monday in a fuel depot of the Italian energy supplier Eni in Calenzano, Tuscany, left five people dead, according to the final report confirmed on Tuesday, and 26 injured. “We can confirm that the bodies of three missing people have been found,” said Martina Banchelli, deputy mayor of Calenzano.

Demonstrations in front of the site
Around 500 people demonstrated near the site on Tuesday to demand accountability and demand increased security, while unions called for a walkout.
The fire was caused by an “explosion”, the president of the Tuscany region, Eugenio Giani, said on Monday. According to Eni, the fire was limited to a loading zone on the site linked to the Livorno refinery, without ever threatening the entire storage park.
Investigations are underway to determine the causes of the fire, as well as its environmental and health consequences. Experts were sent to the site to assess the risks of pollution, including for neighboring waterways.
