A farmhouse in the open countryside went up in flames on the night of Wednesday December 4 to Thursday December 5, 2024. The fire occurred at a place called Chetiveau, in Chérancé in the north of Sarthe. Alerted around 12:30 a.m., more than twenty firefighters intervened aboard five vehicles from the emergency centers of Beaumont-sur-Sarthe, Mamers, Oisseau-le-Petit and Conlie. They were still there early in the morning.
According to the first elements of the investigation, it is a “accidental fire”specifies a gendarmerie officer. A chimney fire would have started between the attic and the smoke evacuation pipes. The roof then burst into flames. The house is partially destroyed.
The incident caused no injuries. The occupant of the premises managed to get out in time. According to the Chérancé town hall, the resident was relocated to his family in Beaumont-sur-Sarthe. And a request for rehousing is made, according to the gendarmerie.
