The France remains a privileged country for Belgians for their vacation. It is estimated that 29% of them stay there, compared to 18% for Spain and 13% for Italy. France therefore remains a flagship destination and this will be the case again this winter for skiing.
That said, who says travel in France also says highway tollsthe quickest way (when the days don’t turn red or black at Bison Fûté) to reach the mountains or the sea. But it appears that taking the French motorways is more and more expensive. And this will be even more true from 1is February 2025date from which prices will increase again.
Almost 1%
From 1is February 2025, on prix tolls will increase so once again. It is estimated that on average, the increase will reach 0,92%a little less than the current inflation of 1.5%. Negligible? Not so much, because we must remember that in 2023 and 2024, prices have already increased by 4.75 and 3% respectively. Since 2020, the increase has therefore reached 11.92%, which means that for a Paris-Marseille, we have gone from almost 60 euros to 68 euros.

But it seems that you have to show yourself satisfied. Because, according to the Banque de France, this controlled increase is the result of a bataille that the Minister of Transport, François Durovray, led to defend the purchasing power French… and therefore also a little Belgian. Phew?
A sticker for the French soon here?
These expenses remind us how expensive traveling is and how expensive Belgium is also welcoming with its free roads. But as we know, that could change. And not just in Wallonia, since Flanders recently also said it was aligned with the introduction of a motorway sticker whose foreign motorists will also have to pay. Certainly, this sticker will not fill the coffers as much as a traditional toll system, but it is a start and we especially hope that if such a system is put in place, it will make it possible to repair our road network which has more than need.
In Flanders, the financial need for renovations is estimated at 10 billion euros, a budget estimated in Wallonia has 400 million eurosa (very large) difference which can be explained by the unique calculation methods. But nonetheless, it is high time that all users contribute to the state of the roads.
