An investigation into the murder of a spouse was opened after the discovery, Monday in an apartment in Toulouse, of the bodies of a woman and her ex-boyfriend, the prosecution told AFP.
The young woman, 23, and her ex-partner, 31, both died of a “violent death” and their bodies were discovered in the latter's apartment at the beginning of the afternoon, said the deputy prosecutor, Frédéric Cousin.
The privileged trail of femicide
The investigation was opened for murder of a spouse because “the marital bond is established”but “gray areas” that the autopsy will have to reveal do not currently make it possible to qualify with certainty this tragedy as femicide, the prosecutor also explained. This is at this stage the hypothesis favored by investigators, according to a police source. Neither of the two deceased people, separated for several months, was known to the courts, said the prosecutor.
In 2023, 96 women were victims of marital femicide in France, according to the latest report from the Ministry of the Interior published on November 25, the international day against violence against women.
