The indoor combined events are the “winter” – therefore indoor – equivalent of the decathlon for men and the heptathlon for women. “They are made up of five events for women (60 m hurdles, height, weight, length and 800 m) and seven events for men (60 m, length, weight height, 60 m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 m) », recalls Mickaël Riou, president of the Lorient athletics club.
Four beautiful medals
Saturday November 30 and Sunday December 1, 2024, the Morbihan departmental combined athletics event championships took place in Guilers (North Finistère). The four athletes who represented the Lorient Athlétisme Club (Lac) had a great performance, each returning with a beautiful medal around their neck: three gold and one silver.
Morgane Pillet, among the junior women, is the gold medalist with 2,634 pts (including a magnificent race over 60 m hurdles in 9''20). Ewen Baraton (gold medalist with 4,152 pts in men's hopeful) won a few personal bests including a 1,000m which he finished in 3'01''42. Ulysse Lecomte-Decrosse, senior men's gold medal with 3,424 pts, achieved a good time in the 60 hurdles in 9''57. Finally, Victor Becker is a silver medalist in the senior men's category and is talking about his versatile side with six records in seven events.
Heading for France?
“It’s a great performance for the Lake: in addition to being (almost) faultless, it shows that the club also has good coaches in all disciplines. For athletes, doing the pole vault and the weights and the 1,000 m in a few minutes requires good physical condition and the ability to adapt quickly,” says Mickaël Riou. Qualified for the regional championships, the four athletes will try to win a ticket to France.
